How to Overcook Text

Using a Filemaker database to pull apart text offers some interesting opportunities that you couldn’t approach using a standard text editor. Web-form submissions, news articles, book manuscripts and emails can all be separated into:

Paragraphs
Sentences
Words
Characters

So any of these can be treated as discrete data elements. We’ll explore four use cases involving color coding for mood, transliteration, automatic abbreviation, and greying out words that are statistically more common within the text sample.
