Ivan M. Granger is an application developer with Codence/Fullcity Consulting and has been working in FileMaker for more than 30 years. His current focus is on AI applied to FileMaker at the engineering level — building tooling that lets AI read, generate, and modify FileMaker scripts, tables and fields, layouts, and other schema directly, including territory other AI-assisted FileMaker workflows can't reach. He's particularly interested in how these new methods change the feel of FileMaker development — making the work both more capable and, honestly, more fun.

Like a lot of FileMaker developers, Ivan came to the platform by a roundabout path. In the early 1990s he was running the office of a small renewable energy company that shipped photovoltaic equipment around the world. New Millennium Communications, headed by Danny Mack, set the office up with a FileMaker-based management system — and something clicked. Ivan started customizing it on the spot, eventually joined the firm, and has been part of the team ever since, through its rebrand as Codence and its recent merger with Fullcity Consulting.

Along the way, his work has covered custom FileMaker business solutions for a broad client base and key development on Codence's proprietary FileMaker-built business platform — most recently focused on business metrics and reporting drawn from accounting and sales data, with central work on inventory management in earlier years. He was also the technical support lead for the firm's FileMaker plugin suite (SecureFM, MediaManager) and developer tools (Security Administrator, FMrobot). He is currently writing a technical brief series on AI applied to FileMaker for the broader developer community.

Beyond his FileMaker work, Ivan is the editor of Poetry Chaikhana, a long-running online archive and small publishing house for sacred and contemplative poetry from world traditions. He currently lives and works in Eugene, Oregon.
