Semantic Discovery
When we launch into discovery work, seeking to understand software we're being asked to support or modify, so often we look first at schema: the structural elements of data storage, user interface, architecture, and automation. DDR analysis tools like Inspector Pro, Base Elements, and FM Perception make structural discovery efficient and effective. This approach falls short, however, if we don't also engage in what I call semantic discovery, investigating the data housed in the schema and anticipated by the user interface and the patterns of meaning & usage reflected within these.
In this session we'll explore how practical engineering decisions can be informed by semantic discovery, and we'll look at some techniques and automation that can make semantic discovery more efficient and effective.
